What is the SF6 gas leakage standard
Pure SF6 gas is colorless, tasteless, odorless, non-flammable, and chemically stable at room temperature. It is an inert gas. However, in the power industry, because sulfur hexafluoride gas (SF6) is mainly used as insulation and arc extinguishing medium and widely used in high voltage switches and equipment, in the circuit breaker and GIS operation process, due to arc, corona, spark discharge and partial discharge, high temperature and other factors, SF6 gas will decompose, and its decomposition will become corrosive electrolyte when it encounters water. Especially some highly toxic decomposition. Such as SF4, S2F2, S2F10 SOF2, HF and S02, they can irritate the skin, eyes, mucous membranes, and, if inhaled in large amounts, cause dizziness and pulmonary edema, and even death.
Sulfur hexafluoride is an asphyxiant that, at high concentrations, causes difficulty breathing, wheezing, blue skin and mucous membranes, and systemic convulsions. After inhaling a mixture of 80% sulfur hexafluoride and 20% oxygen for a few minutes, the human body will experience numbness in the limbs and even suffocation.
Second, the decomposition of sulfur hexafluoride gas under the action of electric arc, such as sulfur tetrafluoride, sulfur fluoride, sulfur difluoride, thionyl fluoride, sulfur difluoride, thionyl tetrafluoride and hydrofluoric acid, etc., they have strong corrosion and toxicity.
1, sulfur tetrafluoride: colorless gas at room temperature, with pungent odor, in the air can produce smoke with moisture, has an impairing effect on the lung, affecting the respiratory system, its toxicity and phosgene equivalent.
2, sulfur fluoride: at room temperature is a colorless gas, toxic, pungent odor, the respiratory system has a similar damage to phosgene.
3, sulfur difluoride: chemical properties are extremely unstable, after heat performance is more active, easy to hydrolyze into sulfur, sulfur dioxide and hydrofluoric acid.
4, thionyl fluoride: colorless gas, rotten egg taste, chemical stability, highly toxic gas, can cause serious pulmonary edema, so that animals suffocate to death.
5, sulfuryl difluoride: colorless odorless gas, chemical properties are extremely stable, is a toxic gas that can cause convulsions. Its risk is that it has no pungent smell and does not cause irritation to the nasal mucosa, so it is often found that after poisoning, it will die quickly.
6, tetrafluorothionyl: colorless gas, has a pungent smell, has an infringing effect on the lungs.
7, hydrofluoric acid: acid is a highly corrosive substance. It has a strong irritating effect on the skin and mucous membrane, and can cause pulmonary edema and pneumonia.
What are the consequences of improper use of sulfur hexafluoride gas
Sulfur hexafluoride itself is a non-toxic and harmless gas, but under the action of high temperature and high pressure arc, it often decomposes and dissociates a variety of products, some of which are toxic substances that will cause harm to the human body. At the same time, if a large amount of sulfur hexafluoride gas is inhaled, it will also cause adverse reactions such as asphyxia. But high-purity sulfur hexafluoride is the "oxygen" unavailable to the power industry, in case of gas poisoning? How can I prevent it? How do we know if it's gas poisoning?
Why does sulfur hexafluoride gas poisoning occur? Due to technical problems and other reasons, the purity of some SF6 gas products is not up to standard, and there will be some harmful impurities when leaving the factory. There is also a case that when dealing with gas equipment, personnel improper operation, resulting in SF6 power equipment leakage, toxic and harmful substances leakage, resulting in gas poisoning. Of course, there are also some companies in the regular inspection of leakage and cut corners, resulting in equipment failure, resulting in gas poisoning.
Once sulfur hexafluoride gas encounters high heat, high temperature (such as: electric arc), it will produce byproducts - sulfur oxide and hydrogen fluoride gas, which coexist with the undecomposed gas. At this point, there are three types of gases. Sulfur oxide is a kind of sulfuric anhydride, which is easily absorbed by the wet mucous membrane surface of the human body to produce sulfuric acid and sulfite, and has a strong irritating effect on the eyes and respiratory mucosa. The specific manifestations are tears, cough, burning throat, eye conjunctiva and respiratory tract tingling symptoms.
If high-purity sulfur hexafluoride encounters human sweat, it will make people's skin red and swollen. Hydrogen fluoride, soluble in water. It is also easily absorbed by the body's wet mucous membrane surface to produce hydrofluoric acid, which is as harmful to the human body as sulfur oxide - the eyes and respiratory tract, but more harmful. Hydrofluoric acid is often used to etch glass, which shows that it is extremely corrosive. If you encounter human sweat, the formation of hydrofluoric acid on the surface of the skin, it can penetrate the surface of the skin to the deep penetration, the formation of ulcers and necrosis, and not suitable for cure. If bone damage causes bone fluorosis, there is no recovery. Hydrogen fluoride is more toxic than sulfur oxide and sulfur hexafluoride.
Leakage emergency treatment: quickly evacuate the contaminated area to the upper wind, and isolation, strictly restrict access. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and general work clothes. Cut off the source of leakage as much as possible. Reasonable ventilation to accelerate diffusion. Use immediately if possible. The leak container should be properly disposed of, repaired and inspected before use.
The toxic gases in sulfur hexafluoride and the dust produced in the equipment are harmful to the human respiratory system and mucous membranes. Generally, after sulfur hexafluoride gas poisoning, there will be varying degrees of tears, sneezing, runny nose, hot sensation in the nose and throat, hoarseness, cough, dizziness, nausea, chest tightness, neck discomfort and other symptoms. When the above poisoning phenomenon occurs, the gas poisoning should be quickly moved to the fresh air, and timely treatment.
