What are the properties of SF6 gas?
A: SF6 is chemically stable and belongs to one of the inert gases. Specifically:
1) Chemical properties: SF6 gas is a very stable and inert gas, it is colorless, tasteless, non-toxic, non-flammable and insoluble in water. It is one of the least reactive gases known, and under normal conditions it does not erode substances that come into contact with it.
2) Physical properties: It is one of the heaviest gases known, density: 6.13g/L, under normal circumstances, it is about 5 times heavier than air.
3) Electrical characteristics:
①SF6 gas has excellent insulation properties, under a uniform electric field, the insulation strength of SF6 gas is 2 to 3 times larger than that of air.
②SF6 gas has excellent arc extinguishing performance, and the arc extinguishing ability is 100 times that of air under the same conditions.
4) Impact on the atmosphere:
①It is found that there are six kinds of greenhouse gases emitted by human activities, they are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, sulfur hexafluoride, among which there are three kinds of fluoride.
②The effect of the same SF6 molecule on the atmospheric greenhouse effect is 25,000 times that of CO2. 3,400 years in the atmosphere doesn't break down easily.
③Today, the global annual emission of SF6 gas into the atmosphere is about 5,000 tons.
